About Us

Where Düsseldorf and Sekondi-Takoradi Build the Future Together.

Who We Are

A partnership that never stops asking: what can we build together?

DESEKTA was born from a simple conviction: lasting change requires equal partnerships. We are a registered non-profit association connecting civic leaders, educators, entrepreneurs, youth, and cultural creatives across two continents; not as donors and recipients, but as co-designers of a shared future.

Our work spans seven interconnected areas: climate and renewable energy, digital transformation, water and waste management, education and youth exchange, culture and the arts, health, and fair economic cooperation. Every project begins with co-defined needs and ends with knowledge shared openly between both cities.

How a sister-city vision became a movement

What if our sister-city relationship could become a real laboratory for sustainable development?” That one question sparked DESEKTA — and the organisation you see today.

DESEKTA has grown into a trusted cross-continental platform, backed by partners from North Rhine-Westphalia to civic innovators in Ghana. Every project has sharpened our understanding of what equal partnership truly demands.

DESEKTA is more than an organisation. It is a living network of schools, businesses, NGOs, and individuals who believe the challenges facing our cities are best solved across borders.
